developing sustainable leaders - the workshop

October 10th to 14th 2011

The developing sustainable leaders workshop is for leaders who want to develop their capacity to handle complexity, unpredictability and the relentless pressure of change; who are finding that conventional ideas about leadership no longer work, and are faced by challenges such as:

  • Meeting business goals at the same time as developing a sustainable culture
  • Learning more effective ways of leading in uncertain and complex circumstances
  • Developing enhanced capacity for ethical decision making
  • Heightening awareness of the relationship between corporate values and my own values
  •

Background & purpose

Increasing numbers of CEOs and business thinkers are calling for organisations to move to more sustainable ways of operating. There is growing awareness that businesses and markets are inextricably linked to the health and prosperity of society and the natural environment, and that the commercial future of an organisation depends on leaders recognising this complex interdependency in their decisions and actions.

At the same time the best practice 'certainties' offered by conventional management theory are poorly suited to the commercial reality we now face. We daily experience the inherent unknowability of complex economic events and the messy unpredictability of business life.

The organisations that will survive and prosper in this environment are those where leaders put sustainability at the core of their day to day activities – how they manage themselves, their relationships and interactions with others as well as their more strategic choices – ensuring the organisation delivers prosperity and social value as well as long term commercial success. We call this sustainable leadership.

The purpose of the workshop is to enable leaders to develop high quality relationships across each of these dimensions, thereby improving their effectiveness as sustainable leaders, and, in turn, creating more sustainable organisations.

Location

The workshop takes place on Naxos Island, Cyclades, Greece. The remoteness from leaders' everyday experience, together with the opportunities for working outside in the natural beauty of the island's environment make it ideal for exploring sustainable leadership in depth.

Fees

£1,300/ Euro: €1,500

Workshop fees include meals on the workshop but exclude VAT and accommodation costs. A limited number of bursaries are available for those who are self funding. Please contact us for further details.
